Australia - HOI4 - Autumn 1937

If you click on the Globe top-right - you get the World Tension History screen.
The Current Wars screen interests me - can I get involved anywhere? There is only the Spanish Civil War and Franco is winning decisively.
I cannot get involved with either the Nationalists
or the Republicans. Maybe I should have turned fascist then I could volunteer troops like Germany and Italy are doing. The Soviets are also helping the Republicans.
Back at home I can't recruit more troops because I don't have the Focus "Citizen Military Forces".
My 7th Infantry Division is almost fully equipped.
It arrives "green" on 11 October...
...and I place it in training.
I don't have enough manpower for an Infantry Division so...
...I start building the smaller 3rd Cavalry Division instead.
I can hire Ben Chifley for 100 PP but I pass.
On 1 December I receive 2 MFs from completing the Small Arms Focus. I want to start building aircraft so I go shopping first.
Neither the UK...
 ...or the USA are willing to let me build their modern designs under licence. If I'd gone Fascist Germany would have said yes.
So I build Swordfish naval bombers instead.
I am now missing a lot of Aluminium so I import some from the Dutch East Indies.
 Voilà!
Now I am low on CFs again.
On the Focus Tree I choose the Department of Supply and Development because the following Focus brings more CFs.
On 16 December Excavation I is completed...
...and I choose Construction II next. 
A few days later Concentrated Industry II finishes...
...and I select Computing Machines to research next.
Again both projects entail a long wait.

Welcome to a new game as Italy. Unlike Australia, Italy is already at war with Abyssinia, it is a fascist nation and has much larger armed forces. However, Mussolini came to power a dozen years before Hitler and his large military is equipped with WW1 equipment, he has only one good general who can't be everywhere at the same time and Mussolini is an idiot. Not the best pre-requisites to build a global empire. But we have to make do with what we have....so here is Italy at the start. I create an Alpine army and give them a fairly good commander then...  ...order them to a port. They are going to Abyssinia. I grab the rest of the army...  ...assign a lousy commander then...  ...order them to the Austrian border to remind Hitler that we also have plans for the alpine nation. In Eritrea we do the same...  .but this army gets the good general, Giovanni Messe. The Abyssinian troops are red because they are the enemy. Now the same again in Somali...

Germany - HOI4 - Looking Eastwards

18 Nov 1936: Research on Concentrated Industry II has completed. I choose to research the SP-AT Marder II which will make something useful out of my useless Pz. Is and Pz. IIs. 05 Dec 1936: The doctrine Delay is selected. The +15% organization is very useful. I also spend 150 PPs on Henschel tank designers with emphasis on speed and reliability 08 Dec 1936: I upgrade 8 more infantry divisions. 16 Dec 1936: The focus KdF-Wagen is completed. I choose Treaty with the USSR next - a joint tank design venture. I also deploy another 8 infantry divisions. 19 Dec 1936: AT-gun development has been completed. Time to develop a Fallschirmjäger force. 27 Dec 1936: Two fully trained motorized infantry divisions are assigned to Guderian's new Panzerarmee. I say new because the forces used against Austria were barely a Corps-sized unit and in need of reform. A couple of days later the SP-AT Marder II becomes available. Italy - HOI4 - Danzig or War?

06 Apr 1939 - Let us stroll around Europe and survey the mood at the brink of war. The Soviets have a very bad opinion of Germany. That is good news. My wars did that. The same in France. That is very good news. Poland needs all the friends it can get. To be expected. 07 April and the insatiable Adolf Hitler is grabbing more territory. 20 Apr 1939 and Radio Detection has been researched. I now select Advanced Machine Tools . I must keep my industry as modern as possible. I'm satisfied with the situation. 09 May 1939 and Computing Machine research is completed. I can now research Decryption-Frequency Analysis . It sounds interesting, 14 Jun 1939 - Decision day for Poland and they quite rightly presumed that Germany would want more than Danzig alone. Germany now has a justification to attack Poland (game rules). Meanwhile at home my next focus will be Carrier Effort .
