Italy - HOI4 - War Against the Soviets (IiI)

12 Jul 1942: Italy now has a relatively modern fighter, the Macchi C.202 Folgore.
My next research project is Hunt and Destroy.
We've been punishing Spanish naval convoys...
13 Jul 1942: I give my Army Mobile clearer orders - to join the 'allies' at the Spanish frontline.
More convoys attacked.
I also give my Army Mobile an objective - advance to the Ebro valley.
20 Jul 1942: More convoys have been attacked and we have a problem. I still don't have military access to French Commune territory. The French territory liberated by the Spanish is considered French Commune territory so I can't attack into it.
 So to hell with them.
I order my Army Mobile back to the border.
26 Jul 1942: Great, the mutiny is crushed. Back to business.
28 Jul 1942: I order an offensive to clean up the Leningrad front.
03 Aug 1942: My focus Libyan Infrastructure is completed.
I choose Army Training to speed up  division training by 25%.
08 Aug 1942 and we have recaptured Leningrad but the Soviets still won't capitulate.
 13 Aug 1942: Two new objectives. Gorki, the new capital, and a couple cities NE of Leningrad.
16 Aug 1942: News from the Far East. Shanxi has capitulated.
A huge victory for Japan and its allies! They have captured a lot of equipment too! More problems for the British Empire.
In the Med there have been many convoy attacks, I add the captured Russian Dockyards to my Naval Production and The Russian army is stubbornly defending against the Nazis.
22 Aug 1942: I order an offensive to capture Gorki and my SM.84 naval bomber is ready for production.
I have decided to research Centrimetric Radar.
25 Aug 1942: I'm doubling the size of my Naval Base at Rhodes and prioritizing it.
23 Sep 1942: Gorki has been captured so now it is time to stabilize the front.
03 Oct 1942: Oops! Some my units have advanced too far too fast and have been encircled. Also Improved Artillery Upgrade II has been researched.
My anti-tank units need an upgrade too.
10 Oct 1942: The Soviets are 97% towards capitulation - still not enough!
13 Oct 1942 and we see the Soviet ally Mongolia capitulate. I also order an offensive towards Kazan. Hopefully that will terminate the Soviets once and for all.
15 Oct 1942: We are making progress on a broad front.
26 Oct 1942 and the US has decided that we have enough artillery pieces so they cancel the Lend Lease.
03 Nov 1942 and the Russians are on the verge of capitulating. Look at the losses! 367K Italians.
08 Nov 1942 and victory is ours. Stalin and his gang have gone into exile and that means Spain. Their sizeable air force will go there too!
I pause the game. It's been a long campaign but the war against Comintern continues.
Look at the Luftwaffe. The Germans only have 800 aircraft left compare to our 4,400. I can't do anything against Spain at the moment so I shall make plans to defeat Nazi Germany.

Welcome to a new game as Italy. Unlike Australia, Italy is already at war with Abyssinia, it is a fascist nation and has much larger armed forces. However, Mussolini came to power a dozen years before Hitler and his large military is equipped with WW1 equipment, he has only one good general who can't be everywhere at the same time and Mussolini is an idiot. Not the best pre-requisites to build a global empire. But we have to make do with what we have....so here is Italy at the start. I create an Alpine army and give them a fairly good commander then...  ...order them to a port. They are going to Abyssinia. I grab the rest of the army...  ...assign a lousy commander then...  ...order them to the Austrian border to remind Hitler that we also have plans for the alpine nation. In Eritrea we do the same...  .but this army gets the good general, Giovanni Messe. The Abyssinian troops are red because they are the enemy. Now the same again in Somali...

Germany - HOI4 - Looking Eastwards

18 Nov 1936: Research on Concentrated Industry II has completed. I choose to research the SP-AT Marder II which will make something useful out of my useless Pz. Is and Pz. IIs. 05 Dec 1936: The doctrine Delay is selected. The +15% organization is very useful. I also spend 150 PPs on Henschel tank designers with emphasis on speed and reliability 08 Dec 1936: I upgrade 8 more infantry divisions. 16 Dec 1936: The focus KdF-Wagen is completed. I choose Treaty with the USSR next - a joint tank design venture. I also deploy another 8 infantry divisions. 19 Dec 1936: AT-gun development has been completed. Time to develop a Fallschirmjäger force. 27 Dec 1936: Two fully trained motorized infantry divisions are assigned to Guderian's new Panzerarmee. I say new because the forces used against Austria were barely a Corps-sized unit and in need of reform. A couple of days later the SP-AT Marder II becomes available. Italy - HOI4 - Danzig or War?

06 Apr 1939 - Let us stroll around Europe and survey the mood at the brink of war. The Soviets have a very bad opinion of Germany. That is good news. My wars did that. The same in France. That is very good news. Poland needs all the friends it can get. To be expected. 07 April and the insatiable Adolf Hitler is grabbing more territory. 20 Apr 1939 and Radio Detection has been researched. I now select Advanced Machine Tools . I must keep my industry as modern as possible. I'm satisfied with the situation. 09 May 1939 and Computing Machine research is completed. I can now research Decryption-Frequency Analysis . It sounds interesting, 14 Jun 1939 - Decision day for Poland and they quite rightly presumed that Germany would want more than Danzig alone. Germany now has a justification to attack Poland (game rules). Meanwhile at home my next focus will be Carrier Effort .
