Germany - HOI4 - Bolshevik Bashing (II)

23 Jun 1941: It is the campaigning season and our southern armies set out to capture Stalingrad and the Caucasus oilfields. We call it Fall Blau - Plan Blue. Why do I have a Déjà Vu feeling???
29 Jun 1941: The Improved Anti-Tank Upgrade I is now available for our troops. Our forces are advancing along the coast and I'm committing reserves to keep the Soviets on the run.
Now it is time to upgrade my Anti-Aircraft capability so I select to research a 4-gun 20 mm AA weapon.
01 Jul 1941: In the north we have linked up with the Finns and their allies. I want to disengage and advance southeastwards towards Moscow. They can clear northern Russia.
04 Jul 1941: Hurrah, Sevastopol has fallen. We are on track to taking the oilfields.
We have also completed research for Concentrated Industry IV. We are in the north now and I am committing more troops to the battles NW of Moscow.
I have selected Construction IV next.
21 Jul 1941: In the central front area we approaching the outskirts of Kharkov.
24 Jul 1941: Yugoslavia lays claim to Bulgaria. Don't expect help from me partner. I'm busy.
I shall spend some of my PPs. 50 on War Bonds....
….and 100 PP on Emergency Factory Conversion.
25 Jul 1941: The focus Bulwark Against Bolshevism has been completed.
The focus Reverse the Brain Drain will give me an extra research slot.
31 Jul 1941: I've developed the Type VIIC U-Boot. I select Landing Craft next. The may be useful one day.
02 Aug 1941: The Ukraine has been conquered (or liberated) and we are now in Russia proper. Most battles are in the 'green'.
25 Aug 1941: The US have cancelled their 'drop in the ocean' support. I shall really miss it....
04 Sep 1941: the 2 cm Flakvierling 38 is now available. Also Armee Magyar is advancing into the Caucasus. They must link up with forces coming through the Crimean Peninsula.
I select the 28/32 cm Nebelwerfer 41 rocket launcher to give my divisional artillery more weight.
08 Sep 1941: Stalingrad is not so far away but the Soviets are going to put up a fight for it. After all it is named after their leader. We now have the Kuban Bridgehead east of the Crimea.
03 Oct 1941: The focus Reverse the Brain Drain has completed. Note there are few Soviet troops at the front. But I don't want to overextend my forces and risk them being surrounded and destroyed piecemeal.
I select the Plan Z as the next national focus. It will boost the expansion of the Kriegsmarine. I have to think beyond Russia.
I decide to deploy 3 more air wings to support my forces in the Caucasus. There aren't many Victory Points in the area but I want the oilfields. Also there are borders with Turkey and Iran.
06 Oct 1941: The 28/32 cm Nebelwerfer arrives.
I decide to develop Rocket Artillery Upgrade I.
07 Oct 1941: Now the Japanese declare war on Shanxi. And I thought Hitler was crazy. Why don't they attack Russia???
That is the end of this post. We are well on the way to achieving our goals. Bis bald....

Welcome to a new game as Italy. Unlike Australia, Italy is already at war with Abyssinia, it is a fascist nation and has much larger armed forces. However, Mussolini came to power a dozen years before Hitler and his large military is equipped with WW1 equipment, he has only one good general who can't be everywhere at the same time and Mussolini is an idiot. Not the best pre-requisites to build a global empire. But we have to make do with what we have....so here is Italy at the start. I create an Alpine army and give them a fairly good commander then...  ...order them to a port. They are going to Abyssinia. I grab the rest of the army...  ...assign a lousy commander then...  ...order them to the Austrian border to remind Hitler that we also have plans for the alpine nation. In Eritrea we do the same...  .but this army gets the good general, Giovanni Messe. The Abyssinian troops are red because they are the enemy. Now the same again in Somali...

Germany - HOI4 - Looking Eastwards

18 Nov 1936: Research on Concentrated Industry II has completed. I choose to research the SP-AT Marder II which will make something useful out of my useless Pz. Is and Pz. IIs. 05 Dec 1936: The doctrine Delay is selected. The +15% organization is very useful. I also spend 150 PPs on Henschel tank designers with emphasis on speed and reliability 08 Dec 1936: I upgrade 8 more infantry divisions. 16 Dec 1936: The focus KdF-Wagen is completed. I choose Treaty with the USSR next - a joint tank design venture. I also deploy another 8 infantry divisions. 19 Dec 1936: AT-gun development has been completed. Time to develop a Fallschirmjäger force. 27 Dec 1936: Two fully trained motorized infantry divisions are assigned to Guderian's new Panzerarmee. I say new because the forces used against Austria were barely a Corps-sized unit and in need of reform. A couple of days later the SP-AT Marder II becomes available. Italy - HOI4 - Danzig or War?

06 Apr 1939 - Let us stroll around Europe and survey the mood at the brink of war. The Soviets have a very bad opinion of Germany. That is good news. My wars did that. The same in France. That is very good news. Poland needs all the friends it can get. To be expected. 07 April and the insatiable Adolf Hitler is grabbing more territory. 20 Apr 1939 and Radio Detection has been researched. I now select Advanced Machine Tools . I must keep my industry as modern as possible. I'm satisfied with the situation. 09 May 1939 and Computing Machine research is completed. I can now research Decryption-Frequency Analysis . It sounds interesting, 14 Jun 1939 - Decision day for Poland and they quite rightly presumed that Germany would want more than Danzig alone. Germany now has a justification to attack Poland (game rules). Meanwhile at home my next focus will be Carrier Effort .
