Germany - HOI4 - The Global Perspective

06 Jul 1942: OK, this is Europe. Germany and the UK are the big players here.
In the Far East, Japan and its annexed territories are surrounded by the Russian Federation (0 divisions), British Raj (The Allies) and almighty Tibet. Add on the USA as a large but timid player and I hope you understand why I wanted out of that jigsaw puzzle.
I'm improving relations with Russia in the hope that they don't join the Japanese (or the Allies for that matter).
They are not exactly a superpower.
I add a 2nd Medium Tank battalion to my Panzer Division template. They will soon have nothing but Panthers and Jagdpanthers in 1942!
I need more oil....the US has more than enough.
07 Jul 1942: I add a Medium Tank-Destroyer battalion to my Panzer-Grenadier divisions.
My production schedule for infantry weapons. Note that most of those icons represent 5 MFs each.
09 Jul 1942: I modify my lend lease to the Finns.
Now I need more tungsten from the US.
Of course they did.
17 Jul 1942: The doctrine Fire Brigades has been researched.
And now it is time to develop the King Tiger. Not for my Panzer divisions but separate Kampfgruppe.
17 Jul 1942: I order General Blaskowitz's 4th Army to Perm.
07 Aug 1942: The UK cancels its non-aggression pact with us.
Good luck with your Balkan Strategy, mate.
I'm not overly concerned  about it. Stanley Baldwin has grossly neglected the Far East.
I launch a major infrastructure programme in my northern Russian territories.
I also hire a Naval Theorist in line with my Kriegsmarine plans.
Naval XP will enable me to create variants of new warships.
11 Aug 1942: More dockyards are planned for the Black Sea.
I have also created a Training School in the East for divisions that need more training.
Look at this lame United States and its even lamer President Alf Landon! Only 30% War Support and all of that is generated by World Tension. We have 100%.
I have a lot of new aircraft which need to be assigned to air wings and airfields.
Some in the Baltic States too.
Also in NW Germany.
Finally in Piedmont.
18 Aug 1942: A new infantry weapon is available - the MP 43.
Time to commence Nuclear Research. Just in case.
28 Aug 1942: I put the MP 43 into production.
I shall need a lot of those....
01 Sep 1942: I have no reason to feel concerned about the UK. Time is on my side.
To reiterate, I have no intention of attacking any nation nor am I doing anything provocative. OK I have upset the Japanese but that is what they are there for.

This is as far as I have played in this campaign and I shall pause here. One reason is that there will be soon an upgrade for Hearts of Iron IV and I won't be able to play this campaign anymore. It won't be compatible. A second reason is related. I want to start a new campaign as Germany but beginning in 1910! Yes, let's refight The Great War....

Welcome to a new game as Italy. Unlike Australia, Italy is already at war with Abyssinia, it is a fascist nation and has much larger armed forces. However, Mussolini came to power a dozen years before Hitler and his large military is equipped with WW1 equipment, he has only one good general who can't be everywhere at the same time and Mussolini is an idiot. Not the best pre-requisites to build a global empire. But we have to make do with what we have....so here is Italy at the start. I create an Alpine army and give them a fairly good commander then...  ...order them to a port. They are going to Abyssinia. I grab the rest of the army...  ...assign a lousy commander then...  ...order them to the Austrian border to remind Hitler that we also have plans for the alpine nation. Germany - HOI4 - Looking Eastwards

18 Nov 1936: Research on Concentrated Industry II has completed. I choose to research the SP-AT Marder II which will make something useful out of my useless Pz. Is and Pz. IIs. 05 Dec 1936: The doctrine Delay is selected. The +15% organization is very useful. I also spend 150 PPs on Henschel tank designers with emphasis on speed and reliability 08 Dec 1936: I upgrade 8 more infantry divisions. 16 Dec 1936: The focus KdF-Wagen is completed. I choose Treaty with the USSR next - a joint tank design venture. I also deploy another 8 infantry divisions. 19 Dec 1936: AT-gun development has been completed. Time to develop a Fallschirmjäger force. 27 Dec 1936: Two fully trained motorized infantry divisions are assigned to Guderian's new Panzerarmee. I say new because the forces used against Austria were barely a Corps-sized unit and in need of reform. A couple of days later the SP-AT Marder II becomes available. Italy - HOI4 - Danzig or War?

06 Apr 1939 - Let us stroll around Europe and survey the mood at the brink of war. The Soviets have a very bad opinion of Germany. That is good news. My wars did that. The same in France. That is very good news. Poland needs all the friends it can get. To be expected. 07 April and the insatiable Adolf Hitler is grabbing more territory. 20 Apr 1939 and Radio Detection has been researched. I now select Advanced Machine Tools . I must keep my industry as modern as possible. I'm satisfied with the situation. 09 May 1939 and Computing Machine research is completed. I can now research Decryption-Frequency Analysis . It sounds interesting, 14 Jun 1939 - Decision day for Poland and they quite rightly presumed that Germany would want more than Danzig alone. Germany now has a justification to attack Poland (game rules). Meanwhile at home my next focus will be Carrier Effort .
