Germany - HOI4 - Polish Campaign (I)

03 Oct 1940: The justification for my war against Poland and its allies has arrived. As you can also see a sizeable Armee Ost is ready at the Lithuanian border.
So let's get started.
This won't be a walkover because Poland has had time to prepare and it is a long way to Tallinn in Estonia,
Army Group 1's initial operational plan.
Great! Poland has called Lithuania into the war. Lots of green but is red too. The Poles are attacking East Prussia.
04 Oct 1940: Now Estonia joins the war. Mixed progress on the southern front too because of the difficult terrain along the border.
I haven't called in my allies because I am hoping I don't need them until later. (For garrison duties.)
05 Oct 1940: Latvia has now accepted Poland's Call to Arms.
12 Oct 18: Success in the north. Rommel's Armee Nord has linked up with German forces coming from East Prussia. Danzig is under siege.
Our forces operating out of East Prussia have also broken through the Polish defences in the northeast and are threatening the Lithuanian capital Kaunas.
 14 Oct 1940: The Poles are taking more casualties than we are.
15 Oct 1940: I call in Hungary to help secure the southern border with Poland.
Yugoslavia decides to join Hungary. It's a full party now. No gatecrashers from outside have joined in.
17 Oct 1940: We lost an old submarine and the Poles lost 38 aircraft. I'm not sure why that is a defeat....
The right-wing party is gaining in France.
18 Oct 1940: The focus Rocketry has been completed.  Meanwhile the Poles in the west are losing ground although Danzig is still holding out.
I select Expand Dockyard Facilities as my next focus. The Kriegsmarine needs some attention.
20 Oct 1940: Danzig is still resisting but not for long.
22 Oct 1940: Armee Süd has penetrated the Polish defences in the southeast and are threatening to take the regional capital Lvov (Lublin).
02 Nov 1940 and the war is noticeably going in our favour. Polish casualties are mounting and Lithuania is approaching capitulation.
03 Nov 1940 and Lithuania does capitulate.
Not any spoils of war worth talking about but our forces can now continue their drive north.
07 Nov 1940: China has capitulated. Honestly I had nothing to do with that. Japan is becoming a threat to the Allies in the Far East.
15 Nov 1940: We have finished researching Improved Decimetric Radar. Also there is no threat in the southeast. The Battle for Poland won't be won there so it is a low priority area for me.
I decide to research Centimetric Radar next.
The campaign is proceeding according to plan. I will accelerate things in the next post. Bis bald.

Welcome to a new game as Italy. Unlike Australia, Italy is already at war with Abyssinia, it is a fascist nation and has much larger armed forces. However, Mussolini came to power a dozen years before Hitler and his large military is equipped with WW1 equipment, he has only one good general who can't be everywhere at the same time and Mussolini is an idiot. Germany - HOI4 - Looking Eastwards

18 Nov 1936: Research on Concentrated Industry II has completed. I choose to research the SP-AT Marder II which will make something useful out of my useless Pz. Is and Pz. IIs. 05 Dec 1936: The doctrine Delay is selected. The +15% organization is very useful. I also spend 150 PPs on Henschel tank designers with emphasis on speed and reliability 08 Dec 1936: I upgrade 8 more infantry divisions. 16 Dec 1936: The focus KdF-Wagen is completed. I choose Treaty with the USSR next - a joint tank design venture. I also deploy another 8 infantry divisions. 19 Dec 1936: AT-gun development has been completed. Time to develop a Fallschirmjäger force. 27 Dec 1936: Two fully trained motorized infantry divisions are assigned to Guderian's new Panzerarmee. I say new because the forces used against Austria were barely a Corps-sized unit and in need of reform. A couple of days later the SP-AT Marder II becomes available. Italy - HOI4 - Danzig or War?

06 Apr 1939 - Let us stroll around Europe and survey the mood at the brink of war. The Soviets have a very bad opinion of Germany. That is good news. My wars did that. The same in France. That is very good news. Poland needs all the friends it can get. To be expected. 07 April and the insatiable Adolf Hitler is grabbing more territory. 20 Apr 1939 and Radio Detection has been researched. I now select Advanced Machine Tools . I must keep my industry as modern as possible. I'm satisfied with the situation. 09 May 1939 and Computing Machine research is completed. I can now research Decryption-Frequency Analysis . It sounds interesting, 14 Jun 1939 - Decision day for Poland and they quite rightly presumed that Germany would want more than Danzig alone. Germany now has a justification to attack Poland (game rules). Meanwhile at home my next focus will be Carrier Effort .
