Prussia - HOI4 - Strategy and Deployment

25 Dec 1915: I called the last post "Decisive Action" because I decided to attack the Soviet Union in the future and staging a coup is Phase 1. A huge gamble because I also want to do it alone - no allies. There are several factors I had to consider.
1. I signed a Non-Aggression Pact with the Soviet Union in Sep 1912 therefore I can't cancel it until Sep 1916 and only then can I start justifying a war goal against them which could take another 6 months. At the moment they have ca. 50 divisions but by early 1917 they could easily have more than 200.
2. It is a big country and I will have to fight them way beyond the Urals.
3. If I manage to organize a coup against the Bolsheviks (there is no guarantee that it will be successful) there will be a Civil War and although I have no doubt that the Soviets will prevail it will be a weaker Soviet Union that faces my forces later.
4. I don't want to share the conquered territory with Austria-Hungary. Yes, we are allies but also rivals but not enemies. If they want to expand they can have Italy and/or the Ottomans and I shall support them. Italy is looking very belligerent at the moment - there are a lot of troops on their border with Austrian Tyrol. The only interest I have there is Libya and Piedmont; maybe Rhodes too.
5. Although France's aggression annoyed me I now don't need to worry about a two-front war anymore and if the UK didn't support France they definitely won't support the Soviets.
I have made a blunder though. I should have chosen Murmansk as the core state for the rebellion. What if the Soviets don't win? I won't have a common border with the Soviets....
Back to business.

25 Dec 1915: I order 1st and 2nd Schlachtschwadronen back to port.
Their new home port however is Brest in the Bretagne.
I also divert destroyer production to the 2nd. It only has 3 battleships.
I allocate the next new Dockyard to producing U-Booten for the U-Bootdivision.
I deploy the 4 Panzer-Divisionen early....
….then cancel further recruitment of this kind....
….then place the new divisions in training.
26 Dec 1915: The trained 6th Panzer-Division is sent to Afrika.
28 Dec 1915: I commence deploying fighters and Zeppelins.
Mostly in Eastern Europe.
They can swiftly have their missions reassigned to Soviet airspace.
30 Dec 1915: Lwow (or Lemberg) is in Austria-Hungary so I may have to rebase them later. Not sure though.
01 Jan 1916: That has narrowed the difference somewhat and I still have more aircraft in reserve.
I send the trained 12th Panzer-Division to Afrika.
Most of Panzerarmee Maghrib's divisions are in the north.
16 Jan 1916: The focus Dockyard Expansion II has been completed.
I select Infrastructure Effort III next. My aim is to get an extra research slot.
I create a new Light Cruiser production line.
The U-Bootdivision has 41 U-Booten assigned to it.
I split it into 4 fleets and move the 3 new ones to Tunisia.
They are placed 'On Patrol' in the Western Mediterranean,
the Central Mediterranean...
...and the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Welcome to a new game as Italy. Unlike Australia, Italy is already at war with Abyssinia, it is a fascist nation and has much larger armed forces. However, Mussolini came to power a dozen years before Hitler and his large military is equipped with WW1 equipment, he has only one good general who can't be everywhere at the same time and Mussolini is an idiot. Not the best pre-requisites to build a global empire. But we have to make do with what we have....so here is Italy at the start. Germany - HOI4 - Looking Eastwards

18 Nov 1936: Research on Concentrated Industry II has completed. I choose to research the SP-AT Marder II which will make something useful out of my useless Pz. Is and Pz. IIs. 05 Dec 1936: The doctrine Delay is selected. The +15% organization is very useful. I also spend 150 PPs on Henschel tank designers with emphasis on speed and reliability 08 Dec 1936: I upgrade 8 more infantry divisions. 16 Dec 1936: The focus KdF-Wagen is completed. I choose Treaty with the USSR next - a joint tank design venture. I also deploy another 8 infantry divisions. 19 Dec 1936: AT-gun development has been completed. Time to develop a Fallschirmjäger force. 27 Dec 1936: Two fully trained motorized infantry divisions are assigned to Guderian's new Panzerarmee. Italy - HOI4 - Danzig or War?

06 Apr 1939 - Let us stroll around Europe and survey the mood at the brink of war. The Soviets have a very bad opinion of Germany. That is good news. My wars did that. The same in France. That is very good news. Poland needs all the friends it can get. To be expected. 07 April and the insatiable Adolf Hitler is grabbing more territory. 20 Apr 1939 and Radio Detection has been researched. I now select Advanced Machine Tools . I must keep my industry as modern as possible. I'm satisfied with the situation. 09 May 1939 and Computing Machine research is completed. I can now research Decryption-Frequency Analysis . It sounds interesting, 14 Jun 1939 - Decision day for Poland and they quite rightly presumed that Germany would want more than Danzig alone. Germany now has a justification to attack Poland (game rules). Meanwhile at home my next focus will be Carrier Effort .
